Lulu Guinness is a British fashion designer known, predominantly, for her beautifully crafted purses, handbags and accessories. Despite her enormous celebrity following and unquestionable success, the Guinness label began in the humble surroundings of her basement. With no formal fashion training, and frustrated at being unable to find a bag that suited both her practical and style needs, Lulu set about designing her own, unaware that, very soon, she would find herself supplying the likes of Liberty’s and Harvey Nichols.
Lulu’s beautiful, 1950s-inspired, creations are instantly recognizable and have become design classics in their own right. Indeed, two of her designs - The Florist Basket and the Violet Hanging Basket, have pride of place in the permanent fashion collection at the V&A Museum.
